'Cymon and Iphigenia' by Sir John Everett Millais
'Cymon and Iphigenia', an early painting by Pre-Raphaelite artistáSir John Everett Millais (1829 – 96), has been acquired by the Lady Lever Art Gallery. The work has been allocated to the gallery from the estate of the late Lord Leverhulme, grandson of the gallery founder, under the acceptance-in-lieu scheme. 'Cymon and Iphigenia' was painted in 1848 when Millais was in his late teens and shortly before theáPre-Raphaelite Brotherhood was founded. His painting style then changed dramatically. In 1852 Millais repainted parts of the picture and thus the painting includes elements of both old and new styles on one canvas. The painting is now on show at the Lady Lever Art Gallery.
