Dare to Dream

Independent painting exhibition with Liverpool Front House
Past and present staff of National Museums Liverpool are staging an exciting independent 'poem art' exhibition called Dare to Dream at the Merseyside Maritime Museum from 8 April to 21 May 2006. They were invited by the community-based Liverpool Front House arts project to create artworks as part of Liverpool’s prestigious 2006 Poetry in the City festival. Dare to Dream displays work by 14 artists and covers a wide range of influences, inspirations and techniques. All the paintings are inspired by or respond to poetry. Liverpool Front House promotes the creative talents of people who work in Liverpool city centre. To millions of visitors, they are the face of a city – hence Front House. All of the artists work, or have worked, directly with the public. Exhibition co-organiser Charlotte Stead, an assistant curator at the Merseyside Maritime Museum who is also an exhibitor, says: “The artists are very excited to be involved in this exhibition. All the paintings depict the artists’ inspiration from poetry, either written by themselves or others.” The Poetry in the City festival runs from 24 April to 7 May 2006. Dare to Dream will be staged again during European Capital of Culture in 2008 and will tour three of Liverpool’s twinned cities – Shanghai, Dublin and Cologne.
