Band perform at Merseyside Maritime Museum

Liverpool’s year as European Capital of Culture is drawing to a close and Merseyside Maritime Museum is marking the occasion with a special late night opening complete with free entertainment.

On Saturday 10 January 2009 events are taking place across the city as part of Transition: The Peoples Celebration, and visitors to the Maritime Museum will be able to take advantage of a later 10pm closing time, while indulging in a some rock and roll courtesy of top Merseybeat combo The Fourmost. 

Celebrating what has been a fantastic year for Liverpool and its people, the Maritime Museum itself recorded a staggering one million visitors in 2008, and Saturday’s free entertainment is set to see out Capital of Culture year in swinging 60s style.

Performing in the Museum’s café at 7:30 and 8:30pm, visitors will be treated to two half-hour sets of free entertainment from The Fourmost, as the band takes a Magical Music Tour through fifty years of Merseybeat rock and pop classics.

Famous for hits including A Little Loving and Hello Little Girl written by John Lennon, the group were signed by the Beatles’ manager Brian Epstein in 1963, and proceeded to become one of Liverpool’s leading bands in the 60s.

While the band play, a sumptuous new menu can be enjoyed in the museum’s café, and from 5 - 9pm there will also be the opportunity to meet magnificent maritime panto characters including Rolling Rosie the playful pirate, the Mysterious Master Mariner and Crazy Captain Hook. Younger visitors are invited to join the shipwrecked Captain Crusoe for a woodcarving demonstration workshop in the foyer during this time.

The International Slavery Museum will also be closing at the later time of 10pm as part of the Transition celebrations.
