Maghull Manor, Sefton

ditch cut into the ground, revealing a buried brick archway

Brick relieving arch in the foundations of the garden wall

A watching brief during the demolition of a Grade II listed 19th century kennel block which lay within the grounds of Maghull Manor, a moated site and Scheduled Ancient Monument.

Following a desk-based assessment we liaised with English Heritage and the local Conservation Officer on the client’s behalf to secure the appropriate consents.

The project found hints of the earlier layout of the moat and manor house, including an internal ditch and fragments of masonry from the earlier house.
