Tulsi Ram Sharma

Tulsi Ram Sharma was born in Simla in 1934. He worked for the Indian government but wanted a better paid job. In 1955 he left Calcutta on board a ship bound for Liverpool.

Tulsi met Jagjeet Singh Chahal, who had arrived in the city three years earlier, near the Pier Head. Jagjeet helped him find a room in Upper Parliament Street and they have remained close friends ever since. Tulsi first worked for Ryland Bros in Warrington before moving on to Courtaulds in Preston , Camel Laird in Birkendhead, Pilkington Glass in St Helens and United Biscuits in Edge Lane, where he retired in 1999.

Like many of his friends he frequented the city's social clubs and bars. He married Mary Ann Williams in 1960 and the couple had two children, Kaliash and Ramesh. Tulsi still lives in Toxteth.
