Steve Heighway was a flying winger who stepped from non-League obscurity with Skelmersdale United to become an idol of the Kop.

The university-educated forward was dubbed 'Big Bamber' (after University Challenge host Bamber Gascoigne) while his equally well qualified teammate Brian Hall was 'Little Bamber'.
