Liverpool soldiers

The Liverpool Soldiers section of the former City Soldiers gallery was dedicated to the Liverpool citizens who have joined the King's Regiment as part-time soldiers or in times of war. Exhibits from this area of the collection include
- photographs of the Volunteers of the Victorian period
- material on Lord Kitchener's appeal for men in 1914
- film of Liverpool Pals parading in front of Lord Kitchener
- army songs from the First World War
- descriptions of how the growing need for men led to conscription
- the uniform of Florence Bolton, who wore the badge of the Liverpool Rifles and served in an anti-aircraft unit
Aftermath and remembrance
This section of the former gallery looked at the experiences of soldiers and their families once the conflict is over. Through a series of moving personal objects and documents the gallery portrayed those experiences of aftermath and remembrance that are often out of sight of civilians, including:
- the story of how a personal memento saved a captain's life in Burma
- memorials and monuments over the last 100 years, showing how they have changed
- the comradeship and loyalty that endures amongst ex-soldiers
