It is the knock on the door everyone dreads - the arrival of an official telegram. Across the city, wives and relatives rip
them open and read "I regret to inform you..." Sometimes the telegram can only tell them that their loved one has died or is
'missing in action'. The lack of detail leads them to imagine the worst.
