The Collinson archive contains the business records of J Collinson & Company, shoe makers and retailers from 1831 to 1978. It was deposited at the Maritime Archives and Library on 20 September 1980 by WS Collinson of West Kirby, Wirral.
The archive includes fine examples of letterheads and sales literature, which document the development of an outstanding local firm. Founded in Liverpool in 1831, J Collinson & Co grew from local to national manufacture. Eventually the firm had several shops in Liverpool and branches in Birkenhead, Chester, Southport, Shrewsbury, Wrexham, Halifax and St Annes-on-Sea. In 1972 A Jones & Sones Ltd (a subsidiary of Church & Co) acquired the shops in Liverpool, Chester and Shrewsbury.
