Pocket barometer altimeter
Pocket barometer/altimeter by F Kuhn, Luzern.

A barometer measures atmospheric pressure . Changes in air pressure are linked with changes in the weather.

The stick barometer on the left was made by Baird and Tatlock in about 1920-30 and it still works today. It was generously donated to World Museums Liverpool's physical science collections by James Hamilton from Prestatyn.

Small pocket barometers were popular with mountaineers and travellers. The one shown on the right also incorporates an altimeter, making it ideal for mountaineering.

Accession number for the stick barometer LIV.2005.8.

Accession number for the pocket barometer/altimeter 53.114.56.
