Stoneware tureen and cover in the form of a trussed goose

Novelty serving dishes like this tureen were popular from the late eighteenth century. They usually held savoury courses like stews - great food to warm you up on a cold winter's day.

This tureen was a gift to the Decorative Art department at National Museums Liverpool from Joseph Mayer in 1867.
