Detail of lithograph
A colour lithograph by A de Vaudricourt after a sketch by JC King. It shows the British and North American (Cunard Line) steamship Britannia leaving East Boston, Massachusetts, USA on 3 February 1844 on a voyage to Liverpool. The merchants of Boston contributed towards paying for a channel 7 miles long and 100 ft wide to be cut through the ice after the ship had become icebound in Boston harbour.
This lithograph, which is not currently on display, is from the Merseyside Maritime Museum's collections.
