The Pre-Raphaelites

The rich purple and yellows used to paint heather and broom have the same acid sharpness as many of Hunt's pictures. In both paintings, there is a tendency for the paint to be more thickly applied than that of other London or Liverpool Pre-Raphaelites.
Born in Liverpool, Daniel Alexander Williamson (1823-1903) came from a family of artists. He lived and studied in London from 1849-60, was in Warton-in-Carnforth from 1861 until 1864 and eventually settled at Broughton-in-Furness in 1864.
