This book is published on the occasion of Liverpool Biennial 2014. Bringing together a wide range of contributions, it is edited by Mai Abu ElDahab and Anthony Huberman, the co-curators of the Biennial exhibition A Needle Walks into a Haystack, with Camille Pageard, whom they invited to be co-editor.
A Needle Walks into a Haystack reflects on how notions of intimacy, delinquency, and inefficiency inform and permeate many contemporary art practices today. This publication is not intended as a catalogue or documentation, but as another 'site' of the exhibition, locating a similar spirit in the work of cultural critics, novelists, philosophers, poets, and others who work with the written word. The contributors were asked to respond to and extend specific texts, references, or ideas that informed the process of conceiving the exhibition itself.
