Entrance hall

In the entrance hall you will find paintings by artists such as John Everett Millais, Edward Burne-Jones, Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema and Henriette Browne.

By the stairs there is one of two sculptures of members of the Naylor family by Benjamin E. Spence, a Liverpool sculptor who worked in the fashionable neo-classical style in the early Victorian period. John Naylor, a Liverpool banker, commissioned the sculptures in 1852 and this one is of his two daughters. The other sculpture is of his wife with their two sons.

They were presented to the Walker in 1967 by Mrs C. Cleaver. The sculptures were brought to Sudley House because in the 20th century, a member of the Naylor family married a member of the Holt family, creating a link between the two.
