Sudley House is a Quality Assured Visitor Attraction
At times there are temporary room closures at the gallery to allow us to undertake essential maintenance of the building. We advise visitors to check room openings in advance of a visit by calling the gallery.
Please note: The costume room is currently being used to display the exhibtion: A Sweet Life: Fashion in a Liverpool sugar merchant's family until spring 2010.
Open 10am-5pm daily
FREE ADMISSION to the gallery and all exhibitions and events.
Closed from 2pm on 24 December, all day 25 and 26 December and 1 January.

Please bear in mind that there is very limited parking at the venue so public transport is strongly recommended.
The drive from the city centre takes approximately 20 mins. The easiest route is to simply follow the road that runs alongside the river - the A5036 (it is called Wapping in the Albert Dock area). Drive south - the river will be on your right. The road will run for a few miles becoming Sefton Street and then Riverside Drive and will pass over several roundabouts - just follow the main line of traffic over them. Go past the Britannia pub and a short while later you reach a roundabout with a sign pointing left to the recycling centre. Here follow the sign left onto Jericho Lane and follow this until you reach a main traffic junction. Go straight across at these traffic lights (crossing the A561 Aigburth Road) onto Ashfield Road. At the next set of traffic lights go right onto Elmswood Road, then just before Mossley Hill church (which is on your right) turn right onto Mossley Hill Road. The entrance to Sudley House is about 500m along on your right.
There are two railway stations within walking distance of Sudley House. If travelling from the city centre board at Lime Street Station - several services stop at Mossley Hill station. Alternatively, take the Southport-Hunts Cross line to Aigburth station (board at either Liverpool Central or Moorfields). This service runs every 15 mins.
Several buses stop near Sudley House including number 61 from stand 5 at Bootle Bus Station to Elmswood Road bus stop (5min walk to Sudley House), and the 80 or 80A to Rose Lane bus stop from Great Charlotte Street in the city centre (10 mins walk).

Parking is very limited at Sudley House so we strongly recommend public transport
where possible.
There is a single marked coach bay.
Admission to Sudley House and all the National Museums Liverpool venues is FREE. All events and exhibitions are also FREE.
Sudley House stands in its own grounds and there is ample room for a picnic on a nice day. Please dispose of rubbish responsibly.
Feel free to bring your mp3 player or mobile phone with you but please turn phones to 'vibrate only' and please consider other visitors when adjusting your volume levels.
Sorry, we do not have a designated, staffed cloakroom, although visitors can hang their coats at their own risk. We also ask that visitors avoid bringing bags into the gallery.
Also, we do not have a prayer room.
There is a free wi-fi connection in the Sudley House tearoom on the ground floor. Simply log on and and the wireless provider is Café.
There is a limited range of Sudley House souvenirs available through
the tearoom.

If you are visiting to see a particular work we suggest you contact us in advance to ensure it is on gallery (we sometimes loan objects to other galleries or remove them for conservation). Call the information desk on 0151 724 3245.
The tearoom has now reopened with an extensive new menu and a larger seating area. It is located on the ground floor and is open 10am - 4.45pm daily. Our new menu includes sandwiches, soups, 'posh pies' and homemade cakes.
We also serve a selection of hot and cold drinks, including cappuccinos and other artisan coffees. You can see a sample menu here.

It is a self-service facility but waitress service is available for visitors who require assistance. Reservations and group bookings are welcome, please call 0151 478 4178 (this goes through to our Learning department). Other tearoom enquiries can be directed via our 'contact us' system.
Non-commercial photography is permitted but neither flash nor tripods can be used.
Visitors wanting to use the venue for location shooting of any kind should contact

Artists wanting to work in any of our venues should consult our guidelines for artists working in the venues.
There are baby changing facilities on the ground floor.
Prams can be stored on the ground floor. Please ask a member of staff for assistance.
The childhood and small world rooms may be of particular interest to children. There's a Noak's Ark, dolls' houses and other toys to play with.
Sudley House stands in its own gardens and backs directly onto a playing field, so there is plenty of space for running around and a picnic.
Tearoom staff are happy to warm bottles. There are highchairs available on request.
Our quarterly Family Guide describes our free family exhibitions, events and activities. It can be requested through our register with us page. A large print version is also available.
Limited parking (two temporary bays at the time of writing) is available immediately outside the building in the grounds of the house, and visitors can be dropped off right outside the front door (we would advise visitors against coming by car unless necessary).
The main entrance is accessed via a ramp.
Exhibition and learning areas on both floors are wheelchair accessible, with a lift between the two floors.
There are four video screens in the venue. All are at a height suitable for viewing by someone in a wheelchair. Three of the four screens are touch screens and the user is requested to select either the video option or the BSL with subtitles version. The fourth screen is a plasma screen and has push buttons instead. All four of these screens also have induction loops fitted.
There are wheelchair accessible toilets on both the ground and first floors.
The tearoom is on the ground floor and is accessible by wheelchair. Neither tables nor chairs are fixed to
the floor. There is a lowered service counter and waitress service is available.
There are also large print menus in the tearoom.
Assistance dogs are welcome.
We produce large print versions of both of our quarterly what's on publications. Our Family Guide describes our free family exhibitions, events and activities, while our Exhibitions and Events Guide has more on our wide-ranging temporary exhibitions, talks and workshops. They can be requested through our register with us page. Other documents can be requested in large print.
The Merseylink Service is a dial-a-ride service for Merseyside people with mobility problems or difficulties, who cannot use or have difficulty using public transport. The service runs from 8am to 11pm daily and can be used by members for travel anywhere in Merseyside. The service is free for members and one essential travel companion. The first floor learning suite is available for booking by educational groups on the same number. A programme for schools will be launched in September of this year.

You may also be interested in visiting our two other galleries, the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool city centre and Lady Lever Art Gallery in Port Sunlight. Both are easily reached by public transport.
