This was thought to be by Brooking when it entered the gallery's collection. It is now believed to be a copy and is probably based on unidentified works by Peter Monamy or Willem van de Velde, though it is less typical of van de Velde's style. Brooking trained himself to paint by making copies of such works and his inscription does appear in the lower left corner.
