20th century and contemporary gallery - part three

This selection is dominated by works acquired through the John Moores painting competition. This biennial event, held since 1957, has provided an opportunity for some of Britain's most innovative and talented painters to reach a national audience. Winners have included David Hockney, Lisa Milroy and Peter Doig.
