Tin-glazed earthenware, painted cobalt blue decoration, made in Liverpool, about 1750

The design of a dragon chasing a burning pearl, as seen on this bowl, was copied from Chinese porcelain. It also appeared in textiles imported from the Far East, especially embroidered silks.
