Wine cooler
Unglazed earthenware, enamel-painted, made at the Davenport factory, Staffordshire, about 1803-08
Coolers such as this one were used to chill bottles of wine either on or near the dinner table. This example, one of a pair, has been painted with figures inspired by Egyptian hieroglyphics, with a Greek key pattern around the top.
