Moulded earthenware, made at the Della Robbia Pottery, Birkenhead, 1903

The majolica-like glaze on this clock case is typical of the glazes produced at Birkenhead's Della Robbia factory. The cherubs recall those depicted on the tin-glazed earthenware plaques made by the original Della Robbia family in Florence during the late fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries.
