Étui case
Gold and agate, probably made in France, about 1760
Étuis are decorative cases made to hold small personal items, such as needles, scissors and thimbles. In the 18th century, women carried them in their pockets or on a chain at the waist.
The mounts of these examples are decorated with the C-shaped scrolls of the Rococo style.
