Earthenware

Designed by George Bullock for Napoleon (after his defeat at Waterloo) to use in captivity on St Helena, 1816. The set was not used because, so it is said, the government decided that the leaf decoration looked too much like a victor's wreath. Bullock instead sold the set to Matthew Robinson Boulton of Tew Park, Oxfordshire.

Purchased 1987.
