Creamware jug

Staffordshire, about 1800

This jug is transfer-printed with a view of a cotton spinning machine. Signed by 'T Baddeley, Hanley' as engraver or printer. The print proclaims cotton spinning as "Britain's Glory", but you can also see one of the child workers who were sometimes injured or killed in the machines.

Purchased 1886.
