Eric James Mellon

Ceramicist, Maker

Eric James Mellon specialised in the use of ash glazes, developing a number himself. He is also well known for the underglaze drawings of figures frequently present on his ceramics.

He trained at the Central School of Arts and Crafts in London between 1945 and 1947 due to his inability to serve as a soldier in the second world war. He was awarded a National Diploma in Design, and in the early 1950s set up an artistic community at Hillesden, Buckinghamshire, with his friend Derek Davis.
