Snowdon from Llyn Nantlle

Richard Wilson, 1765 about

WAG 2429

About this object

The view is from the north west, with the hump of Clogwyn y Gareg below the summit and Mynydd Mawr to the left. By 18th century standards, Wilson has remained quite truthful to the scene but he has steepened the mountain slopes in order to dramatise the composition. His changes of mind are clearly visible on the ridge to the right.
