About this object

This is one of Lear's finished drawings, possibly intended for a patron or for sale. Lear took a vast tour of Palestine in 1858 and later 'found tranquillity and rest ' in the mountains of Lebanon. Mount Hermon is situated on the border of Lebanon and Syria. Lear chronichled his travels extrensively and described this mountain range as a 'kind of Orientalized Swiss scenery'.
