Fording the Stream

David Cox,

WAG 8183

About this object

There is a greater breadth and freedom to this work compared with other, earlier, works by Cox in the collection. N. Neal Solly (active 1873 - 1894) described it as one of Cox's works of 'the highest quality' in his 'Memoir of the Life of David Cox' in 1873.

The view may show a scene in North Wales. Cox made annual sketching trips there between 1844 and 1856.
