Henry Dawe

English painter and mezzotint engraver (1790 - 1848) of portraits and decorative subjects

Henry Dawe was a painter and mezzotint engraver. Taught by his father, the engraver Philip Dawe (born 1750), Dawe studied at the Royal Academy Schools in London and produced engravings after the Old Masters and his contemporaries. He produced six mezzotint engravings for Joseph Mallord William Turner's (1775-1851) 'Liber Studiorum', and after his brother George Dawe's (1781 - 1829) portraits. As a painter Dawe exhibited at the Society of British Artists and was elected a member of the society in 1830.
