Christoffel Meijer

Dutch painter (1776 - 1813) and watercolourist of fantasy and topographical views

Meijer (also spelt Meyer) was apprenticed to the artist Dirk Langendijk (1748 - 1812) as a young man. He later moved to Rotterdam in around 1794 and worked there from the age of 18. Most of Meijer's drawings and watercolours date from 1803 until 1807. In 1809 he went mad and was locked up in the Communal Madhouse in Rotterdam by order of the mayor. Meijer died there in 1813.
