Michael Angelo Rooker

British painter, watercolourist, illustrator (1746 - 1801 ) and engraver of architecture and landscapes

Michael Angelo Rooker was a painter, illustrator and engraver of architecture and landscapes. He began his training under his father, Edward Rooker (d.1774), an architectural engraver and pantomime actor. He later served as an assistant to artist Paul Sandby (1731 - 1809).

In 1770 he was one of the first people to be elected an ARA. From 1779 - 1800, he was the principal scene painter at the Haymarket Theatre, and gave up most engraving work. From the late 1780s onwards, Rooker made autumn sketching tours around England and Wales.
