Craft & Design gallery
The Craft & Design gallery is the first dedicated space for the
decorative arts at the Walker Art Gallery.
On display are over 500 items covering all aspects of the decorative arts. Most
of the pieces were made between the 17th and 20th centuries. Many of them have
never been on public display before.
In the gallery you can see the objects both on their own and in the context of
other cultures and times. Interactive displays complement the objects,
explaining how they were made and used.
The Craft & Design gallery is divided into three main sections. Follow the
links below to find out more and see just some of the objects on display.
This section features a wide range of objects and looks at the different ways
we use them in everyday life. Areas covered include eating, drinking, dressing
and entertaining. You can also learn how customs and table manners have changed
over the years.

Here you can discover how objects are made and decorated. Different techniques
from glass blowing to enamelling are explained, giving a fascinating insight
