Tin-glazed earthenware, Liverpool, about 1750
Inscribed:
'Here Gentlemen come try your skill, I'll hold a wager if you will, That you don't drink this liquor all, Without you spill and let some fall.'
A tube passes up the handle and round the rim. The only way to succeed was to block two of the spouts and a secret hole under the handle, while sucking at the third spout. A jug like this would have been used by men in the pubs of the day.
Purchased 1953.
