Teacup and saucer

A cup and saucer with a person as decoration. The edging is also in a Greek style.

Black basalt ware, made at the Wedgwood factory, Staffordshire, about 1780-1800

This cup and saucer is painted with red and white Classical figures and floral motifs. Wedgwood called this style of decoration 'Etruscan', after the area in Italy known as Etruria, where the ancestors of the Romans lived.
