'Savoy' vase

This is a tall, deep face with a wide oragnic form.

Mould-blown glass, designed by Alvar Aalto for the Karhula Glassworks, Finland, 1937

This vase was named 'Savoy' from its use in the Savoy restaurant in Helsinki, Finland, which Aalto designed in 1937. This design was particularly important in the establishment of 'Biomorphism', a style which imitates the appearance of living organisms. This style became an important feature of much Modernist design.
