About SEX TALK MTG
SEX TALK MTG – an event exploring sex (re)education for teachers, educators, academics, activists, youth workers and artists. Join us for this event hosted by Bedfellows in FORUM as part of the Coming Out exhibition. The Walker is delighted to have Bedfellows here to host this event and lead participants in an exploration of ideas around identity, relationships, gender and sexuality. This event will be artist-led and is part performance and part guided conversation. Participants will be able to explore online and offline resources to discuss current forms of sex education and imagine alternative futures for sex (re)education. This event also provides an opportunity for participants to develop their understanding of intersectional approaches for sex education.
‘Calling all teachers, educators, academics, activists, youth workers and PEOPLE IN THE WORLD! Are you hot-blooded about sexual politics? Frustrated by the lack of sex education in schools? Fired up by collective consciousness? Join Bedfellows for a SEX TALK MTG - a part performance, part guided conversation sharing online and offline resources to discuss current forms of sex education and imagine alternative futures for sex (re)education.’ -Bedfellows
What topics will we be covering?
Through guided conversation, performance and resources we will explore issues relevant to the Coming Out exhibition. There will be wider conversations around sex education, sexual identity, gender identity, creating inclusive spaces, the politics and portrayal of sexuality, and the influence of pornography on perceptions of sex, gender, class and race.
Teachers and educators
This event provides a unique opportunity to explore the realties that young people face in terms of explicit imagery, pornography, sexuality, gender and identity. We’ll cover the basics, such as gender pronouns, as well as the Humanifesto developed by Bedfellows which calls for a sex education that reflects who all of us are. Through this event you will be able to investigate themes that support personal, social, health and economic education (PSHE), spiritual, moral, social and cultural development (SMSC), sex and relationship education (SRE) and the development of inclusive spaces. Bedfellows will share resources that they have developed to address these issues and expand our thinking in these areas.
Bedfellows is a sex education research project led by London-based artists Chloe Cooper, Phoebe Davies and Jenny Moore born from the personal, the political, and the professional. They are currently investigating desire, consent, sexual identities and feminist porn. Bedfellows have worked within a wide range of settings, including art galleries, six form colleges and a monthly research group meeting in London.
