This vibrant watercolour was illustrated together with watercolours by the Macdonalds in ‘The Yellow Book’, a progressive magazine then edited by Aubrey Beardsley.

London was taking note of the young artists’ work.

It carried the caption: 'The very shadows in the cave worshipped her / the little waves threw themselves at her feet / and kissed them'. The text and title appear to be of McNair’s invention.
