Out of this World: the art of Josh Kirby
This illustration was produced in 1974 for an Arrow Games jigsaw.
Sport and action-themed jigsaws appealing to both sexes were popular throughout the 1970s and ‘80s and Kirby painted everything from Speedway to Ice Skating. The appearance of young Belarussian gymnast, Olga Korbut, in the 1972 Olympic Games raised the profile of her sport and jigsaw subjects like this became particularly fashionable. Horse riding had a long-standing appeal; Falcon also commissioned a set of three horse-riding pictures in 1986.
