Out of this World: the art of Josh Kirby
Painted 1995 for the 1995 Gollancz edition.
This masterpiece of colour and composition was reduced to an awkwardly cropped detail dominated by text on the Gollancz hardback cover, faring only slightly better as a Corgi wrap-around. Ankh-Morpork’s Opera House – complete with masked Phantom - provides the setting for Kirby’s accomplished upper circle perspective, from which one of the audience appears to have spotted him at work.
