'Rincewind and the Luggage

Colourful fantasy scene showing Death and a man riding a trunk

Painted 1995. Isis Calendar 1995

An assemblage of characters from several Discworld novels. From the left and top-down (zoom into the picture for more detail):

Creosote: Was the Seriph of Al Khali, capital city of Klatch, a country on Discworld’s Circle Sea. He is debauched and partial to poetry.

Conina: Daughter of Cohen the Barbarian, Discworld’s oldest hero. Well-built with impressive weaponry skills but would rather be a hairdresser.

Hrun the Barbarian: Employed as Rincewind and Twoflower’s bodyguard and can think without moving his lips. Carries Kring, a magical talking sword.

The Librarian: Unseen University’s Librarian, transformed into an orang-utan by an escaped spell. His job is to prevent people from reading the books in case they wear out.

Death: Skeletal yet affable, Death ALWAYS SPEAKS IN CAPITAL LETTERS. Has been pursuing Rincewind for some time.

Death of Rats: ‘The Grim Squeaker’. Has the same job as his master. Also plays host to the Death of Fleas.

Rincewind: Failed wizard and former Unseen University student. Excels at fleeing from trouble: “I run, therefore I am.” Has a very powerful spell trapped in his head, so is much sought after.

The Luggage: A travelling trunk made of rare and magical sapient pearwood. Has hundreds of legs, an infinite storage capacity and a mind of its own. Protects its master.

Om and A’Tuin Execution Machine: Om is a powerful God trapped in the body of a tortoise. The vile machine, modelled also on A’Tuin, the great turtle who carries Discworld, is used to despatch heretics.

Liessa: A dragonrider from the magical Wyremberg. She is manipulative, has killed her father and is fighting her two brothers for power.

Twoflower: An ‘inn-sewer-ants’ salesman and tourist from the gold-laden Counterweight Continent. Arrives in Ankh-Morpork with the Luggage, becoming Rincewind’s companion.

Trolls: Beings who are partly composed of rock. Hold a diversity of jobs within Discworld. Become more intelligent as their brains cool down.

Detritus: A troll. Part of Ankh-Morpork’s City Watch. Carries a self-styled crossbow called the Piecemaker. Wears a brain-cooling helmet which improves his intelligence.

Errol: A brave swamp dragon. Swamp dragons are small, permanently ill and sometimes explode. Many are kept as pets.
