A portrait of actress Kim Cattrall by Sky Arts ‘Portrait Artist of the Year’ winner, Samira Addo, is now on display at the Walker Art Gallery!

We can’t be more excited to showcase her stunning painting of the Liverpool-born actress in room 5 at the gallery, alongside paintings by some of the most famous portrait artists in British history, including Thomas Gainsborough and Sir Joshua Reynolds.

Kim Cattrall visited the Gallery for the filming of the unveiling of the portrait, expressing her delight at the portrait and the collection at the Walker.

Sandra Penketh, Director of Art Galleries at National Museums Liverpool, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Samira Addo’s striking portrait of Kim Cattrall to our collection here at the Walker. Kim was born in Liverpool and speaks passionately about the city and her memories of growing up here. We hope that visitors will enjoy seeing her portrait among some of the most recognisable paintings in our collection.”

The series, presented by Joan Bakewell and Frank Skinner, saw more than 1,000 artists from across the UK apply for the show this year to compete for the £10,000 commission. As the overall winner, Samira received the commission to paint Kim’s portrait.

Kim Cattrall was born in Liverpool’s Mossley Hill. She moved to Canada at three months of age, before returning to stay with family at the age of 11. She moved back to Canada to finish high school when she was 16.

Kim has fond memories of visiting the city’s museums and galleries as a child, and also of being inspired by watching theatre in the city. She famously went on to play the role of Cleopatra in Antony and Cleopatra at Liverpool’s Playhouse theatre back in 2010.
