'The Comedy of Dante Allighieri: part 1 - the Hell.' Translated by William Michael Rossetti

Book cover with various shapes

Published by Macmillan and Co, 1865, 17.6 x 12cm, The British Library, London

The circles in the corners contain the Greek letters alpha and omega. The central square encloses three circles for the three parts of the 'Divine Comedy'. One is decorated with stars for Paradise, another with flames for Hell, and the third, for Purgatory, has a mixture of both.

This copy was given by the author, Rossetti's brother, to William Morris.
