'King Arthur and the weeping queens' , Dante Gabriel Rossetti

Ten queens surround a coffin by a river

Illustration in 'Poems by Alfred Tennyson' published by Edward Moxon, Wood engraving by Dalziel brothers after Rossetti's design, published 1857, 9.4 x 8cm, Stephen Calloway

Based on Tennyson's lines from 'The Palace of Art' about the death of Arthur 'watch'd by weeping queens'. Each of the ten queens tending the body wears a crown of different design.

The queen to right of centre resembles Christina Rossetti.
