'Study of Elizabeth Siddal for 'Beata Beatrix', Dante Gabriel Rossetti

Drawing of a young woman kneeling with her palms upturned

Pencil on paper, probably drawn in the 1850s, 15 x 11.9cm, William Morris Gallery (London Borough of Waltham Forest)

This is a study for 'Beata Beatrix' , showing Beatrice at the moment of her death. Siddal is here modelling in everyday dress. Although the finished painting dates from 1863 - 70, this drawing must have been made before 1862, the date of Elizabeth Siddal's death.
