Young girl's dress

Tussah silk, about 1918-19

Young girl's natural-coloured tussah silk dress, with long sleeves, fastening down centre back with row of buttons. Yoke and cuffs both smocked and embroidered with brown silk. Deep, turned-over collar also embroidered with brown silk border and motifs.

Probably worn by Elspeth Tinne (1911-2000) aged 7-8, and similar to a dress worn by her earlier, aged about 7.
