Oil on resin Andrew Eden was born in 1946. He studied at Byam Shaw School of Art 1963-64 and Wimbledon School of Art 1964-69. His first one-person show was at Daniel Shackleton Gallery Edinburgh 1971 and his second was at the Liverpool Academy Gallery, 1977. In 1986 he received an East Midlands Art Association award for his one-person show at City Artists' Gallery London. Since 1995 he has also worked in video: his 'Two Short Journeys' and 'Seven New Journeys' were made in 1998 and 2001 respectively. His most recent one-person exhibition 'Art For Circulation Spaces' was shown at the Building Centre, London 2001 and Fermyn Woods Gallery Northants 2002.
"Many of my paintings are made to hang in corners or the junctions between wall and ceilings or stairwells and passages that relate to the circulation round a building. These are spaces that are concerned with links and movement. The imagery is of fleeting glimpses, shadows and fragments taken from other moving sources such as driving or walking round a city. The paintings can be viewed from many angles and their non-standard locations often reveal and emphasise the flat character of painting. This has led me to use coloured fibreglass resin as my main medium because it can be both thin and strong."
