John Moores 25
This exhibition was held at the Walker Art Gallery, from 20 September 2008 - 4 January 2009
This exhibition has now finished
This exhibition marked the 25th John Moores Contemporary Painting Prize and 50 years since the first John Moores Liverpool exhibition was held at the Walker Art Gallery in 1957. As in previous years, the exhibition profiled the best established and emerging artists from across the UK. Today’s John Moores prizewinners and exhibitors will be the future stars of the art world.
To mark the importance of these 50 years of activity, there was also a related display of previous John Moores prizewinners. This included important works acquired for the collection such as those by Jack Smith and David Hockney and, more recently, by artists including Michael Raedecker and Peter Davies. The first prizewinning painting, 'Fontana' by Peter McDonald, was purchased for the Walker Art Gallery’s collection and has joined this distinguished group.
The John Moores 25 exhibition catalogue is a comprehensive guide to the prizewinners, shortlisted entries and the history of the competition. It is available for £9.95 plus £2 p+p to UK addresses. Packing and airmail costs to Europe are £5, and £9 to the rest of the world. Surface mail costs to the rest of world are £4.50. All enquiries and orders should be sent via our contact system.
