'Pirosmani in Tbilisi' is the result of a visit to the state museum in the capital of the
Republic of Georgia. A room is devoted to the work of Niko Pirosmani and I
wanted to let the characters he painted occupy the space of the room. It took
some time for this group of men at a banquet to make their way from one painted
world into another.
My paintings endeavour to be visual representations of my everyday experiences.
I am trying to bring together visual observations and emotional responses. These
attempts to fuse together parallel worlds to form a coherent visual language have
led to an interest in pictorial representation of space and light. Through painting I am,
in a sense, trying to take possession of the space I occupy and experience.
