John Moores 25
This exhibition is being held at the Walker Art Gallery, 20 September 2008 - 9 January 2009

20 x 25 cm, Oil paint on shaped MDF, 2007
My interest in painting is derived from having encountered the quietness and grace
of 18th-century Japanese landscape painting. I endeavour to paint with a muted
form of expression. Huts on stilts, raised walkways, A-frames, ladders and billboards
litter the fictitious landscapes. They are the traces of human existence (human
idiosyncrasy), but they also act as technical devices, making the landscape somehow
more tangible.
