John Moores 25 Contemporary Painting Prize

20 September 2008 - 4 January 2009

Free

This exhibition marks the 25th John Moores Contemporary Painting Prize and 50 years since the first John Moores Liverpool exhibition was held at the Walker Art Gallery in 1957. As in previous years, this exhibition profiles the best established and emerging artists from across the UK. Today’s John Moores prizewinners and exhibitors will be the future stars of the art world.

To mark the importance of these 50 years of activity, we are this year staging a related display of previous John Moores prizewinners. This includes important works acquired for
the collection such as those by Jack Smith and David Hockney and, more recently, by artists including Michael Raedecker and
Peter Davies. This year’s first prizewinner has been purchased for the Walker Art Gallery’s collection and joins this distinguished group.
